My goal as a teacher is to encourage the practitioner to be guided by the breath. Thoughts and emotions are lessen as the breath deepens and awareness is on the movement of the spine activated by the breath. The yoga practice is an opportunity to explore a variety of postures and to experience the physical sensations of each position from within. The goal in yoga is more centered on transforming our experience from restriction to freedom, heaviness to a feeling of lightness, and to be aware of our thoughts and emotions from a place of stillness. Our thoughts are always changing, our emotions are always moving and a good yoga practice helps to cultivate an acceptance toward change and movement. Transforming from within can take many forms, for example, you can notice differences in your range of motion which may be greater on your right arm and shoulder than your left arm and shoulder. A deeper breath can facilitate transformation by expanding your breath capacity and creating a more focused and clear mind. The practice of yoga postures, breathing practices, sound, meditation and self reflection can help to cultivate a mind that is steady and clear and can transform how you experience life.
